Films at Sundance 2022

Look out for these films that we’re proudly associated with at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.

The 2022 Sundance Film Festival is fast approaching and the film world is buzzing with excitement. This upcoming festival, only 84 films were chosen versus the usual 127. There were 3,800 submissions in total. Sundance will be both virtual and in-person, and this hybrid model will operate at 60% of pre-COVID-19 capacity in both volume and venue. 

We are thrilled to highlight the projects supported through Utah Film Center’s Fiscal Sponsorship program, programmed by us, or produced by the Film Center’s Co-founder and Board Chair, Geralyn White Dreyfous. It’s no small feat to get into Sundance, let alone in a year full of challenges and restrictions brought on by a global pandemic. Congratulations to all the films selected for the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, especially these:

MAIKA

After a meteor falls to earth, 8-year-old Hung meets an alien girl from the planet Maika, searching for her lost friend. As Hung helps her otherworldly friend search, the alien inadvertently helps Hung make new friends and heal a broken heart.

SUMMERING

During their last days of summer and childhood — the weekend before

middle school begins — four girls struggle with the harsh truths of growing up and embark on a mysterious adventure.

An alarmingly disproportionate number of Black women are failed every year by the U.S. maternal health system. Shamony Gibson and Amber Rose Isaac were vibrant, excited mothers-to-be whose deaths due to childbirth complications were preventable.
