Film Spark: Documentaries Worth Discussing

Film Spark: Documentaries Worth Discussing is a grades 6-12 education program of the Utah Film Center where we curate documentaries, write accompanying standards-linked study guides, compile all of this into a volume; then fly in a filmmaker who presents at our statewide workshop series (see St. George, Salt Lake and Park City schedule and application here) where we model the program and provide participating teachers teams with this resource to keep and use cross-curricularly at your school.

This school year we are featuring the film Racing Extinction and hosting one of the filmmakers from this film for our workshop series. We will be distributing Volume II to teacher teams: 12 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) themed non-fiction films. The documentaries and corresponding curriculum materials are constructed to help support deeper STEM content learning, enhance STEM literacy, and excite students about potential STEM careers.

USBE professional development relicensure credit is available to qualifying participants.
