Discover the many careers that bring movies to life! In this workshop, students will explore a variety of filmmaking jobs — from directors and editors to costume designers and special effects artists. Participants will learn how these roles work together to tell stories on screen and discuss different pathways into the film industry, including college programs, internships, and entry-level opportunities. Whether you dream of working behind the camera or designing movie magic, this workshop offers a glimpse into the exciting world of filmmaking careers.
Each 60-minute workshop includes a combination of lecture and hands-on activities. To ensure the best experience, we recommend limiting reservations to one class per workshop (up to 30 students). On the day of your workshop, the Teaching Artist will check-in at the front office before navigating to your classroom. The Teaching Artist will arrive 10-15 minutes before the workshop is scheduled to begin, and will quietly set up any needed equipment before beginning their presentation.
If you would like your entire grade level to participate in a workshop, or if you would like to request a date/time or location not listed in the booking calendar, please contact the Media Education Department at edu@utahfilmcenter.org. We love teaching multiple workshops when visiting your school and we are happy to arrange custom times that better-align with your bell schedule!
This workshop can be facilitated virtually via Zoom. If you would like to schedule a live-virtual “Careers in Filmmaking” workshop, click here.
