Utah Film Center is a nonprofit at the intersection of art, education, and industry. Investing in our work is an investment in people, place, and opportunity in Utah and beyond.
We support filmmakers and creatives as essential contributors to healthy communities. They are small business owners, educators, and employers who create jobs, contract with local vendors, and build career pathways for people who want to live and work in their communities. Through our artist programs, we provide professional development and access to tax-deductible funding for hundreds of filmmakers from Utah and around the world.
Education is central to this ecosystem. Through free statewide media arts education programs, a student film competition, and professional training, we connect students of all ages to mentors, tools, and real economic opportunity. This work is especially important in rural Utah, where access to arts training and industry networks is limited. Last year, our media arts programs reached 22,000 students in Utah and 9,000 more across the Mountain West.
Our work also strengthens civic connection. Independent filmmakers often document local stories that might otherwise go untold. As local journalism declines, film helps preserve community voice and create shared spaces for curiosity, dialogue, and understanding—free from algorithm-driven influence.
Utah Film Center makes investments go further. Each year, we receive nearly $500,000 in public funding, which we more than triple through private and earned support, scaling impact across Utah communities. These resources support thousands of students and teachers, hundreds of filmmakers and creatives, and shared infrastructure that multiplies impact over time.
Our new home in Salt Lake City serves as a film-focused creative hub for statewide and global engagement—with coworking space, a 180-seat screening room, and education facilities. It is part of the cultural and economic infrastructure needed to grow Utah’s creative industry and bring people together around ideas.
