Our FREE classroom workshops offer an opportunity to have a professional in the filmmaking industry teach students about what goes on behind the scenes in their profession, helping students become informed film viewers and conscious film content creators. 

Meet Our Teaching Artists

William King

Teaching Artist
William is a Utah-based screenwriter and script doctor with a passion for storytelling and media education. Since joining Utah Film Center in 2022, he has inspired students through his energetic, creative teaching style. Drawing on professional film industry experience and university-level instruction, William creates experiences that make filmmaking exciting and fun.

Weber Griffiths

Weber is an award-winning filmmaker and experienced educator who excels at breaking down complex filmmaking concepts into engaging, accessible lessons. Since joining Utah Film Center in 2023, he has shared his professional expertise through interactive workshops that encourage creativity, collaboration, and confidence in young storytellers.

Rook Stevens

Rook is an illustrator and visual storyteller specializing in animation, storyboard art, and concept design. A graduate of Brigham Young University, Rook has taught with Utah Film Center since 2025, guiding students through engaging, hands-on experiences while fostering creativity, collaboration, and confidence through the art of animation.

How to Book a Workshop for Your Classroom

Request the date and time that works best for your class—in-person or virtually. Or send us an email at [email protected].

Receive a confirmation email with details of the workshop. Some workshops will have pre-workshop and post-workshop info and lesson plans.

On the date and time of your reservation, a professional filmmaker (Teaching Artist) will check-in at the front office and meet you in your classroom!

What to Expect in a Workshop

Each 60-minute workshop includes a combination of lecture and hands-on activities. To ensure the best experience, we recommend limiting reservations to one class per workshop (up to 30 students).

Explore the exciting careers that bring movies to life—from directors and editors to costume designers and special effects artists. Perfect for Career Day!
This workshop is available both virtually and in-person.
This in-person workshop is available to Alpine, Canyons, Granite, Jordan, Murray, Ogden, Park City, Provo, Salt Lake, and Wasatch school districts. For school districts outside of this list, please submit a special request via email.
Individually tailored for Grades 3-12
Explore the art of visual storytelling through cinematography. Students learn how framing, camera movement, and composition shape meaning before putting their new skills into practice with iPads.
This workshop is ONLY offered in-person.

Build media literacy through the art of filmmaking! Students explore how storytelling, visuals, sounds, and editing work together to create meaningful movie experiences.

In addition to the classroom workshops above, we also have our new self-paced lesson plans and pre-recorded videos . These lessons give educators and community members the opportunity to discover new filmmaking elements that fit into their schedule. If you enjoyed our classroom workshops or didn’t find one for your grade, we encourage you to check out some of these resources below.

Similar to our workshops, the self-paced lesson plans were created to meet selected Utah Core Standards. You can find these standards at the end of each lesson plan.

About POPS
POPS (Professional Outreach Programs in the Schools) is an educational outreach program in the fine arts that provides a mechanism for Utah’s professional art organizations to assist in teaching the Utah’s fine art core curriculum in the public schools. Professional organizations match state revenues to support and enhance the delivery of art education through demonstrations, performances, presentations, and educational activities in the schools. The program ensures that each of the 41 school districts have the opportunity to receive services in a balanced and comprehensive manner over three years.
