Last month, Utah Film Center’s Executive Director, Mariah Mellus, was honored at the Sundance Film Festival by Zions Bank as the recipient of the 2026 Women’s Leadership Celebration Giving Voice Award.
Presented during the Festival’s annual Women’s Leadership Celebration, the Giving Voice Award recognizes visionary leadership and a lifelong commitment to uplifting artists and communities. As Mariah stated in her acceptance remarks, “The best part about giving a voice to others is you expand your community and resources. You make the pie bigger.” We are deeply grateful to Zions Bank, Nate Callister, Heidi Prokop, the Sundance Institute, and the Redford Family for this meaningful recognition.
First awarded to Robert Redford and later passed to Michelle Satter and Joan Tewksbury, the Giving Voice Award celebrates leaders who expand access, champion artists, and build lasting cultural impact. To see Mariah’s name included among this inspiring lineage is an incredible honor for our organization and our community.
Mariah has been with Utah Film Center for 18 years, the last three as Utah Film Center’s Executive Director. Under her leadership, Utah Film Center has continued to grow its impact—bringing powerful films, educational programs, and artist resources to communities throughout Utah and beyond. In 2025, Mariah and her team opened Utah Film Center’s permanent home—a film-focused creative hub that helps artists connect with filmmaking resources and audiences. Her commitment to access, inclusion, and meaningful storytelling continues to shape our mission and strengthen the creative ecosystem we serve.
We couldn’t be prouder of Mariah and this well-deserved recognition!
