Co-directed by Utah natives, World Debut hosted its World Premiere on the Olympics Channel
What were once lifestyle fads have evolved into some of the world’s fastest-growing sports and are now set to debut on the world’s biggest stage – the Olympic Games. Step inside the journey of three new sports born on the fringes of society – skateboarding, surfing, and sport climbing – alongside names like Tony Hawk, Emily Harrington, and Sofia Mulanovich.
According to KUER, World Debut “examines how the world’s largest sporting bureaucracy came to embrace sports known for their anti-establishment subcultures. But what does this badge of respectability mean to these sports? And what does embracing action sports mean for the Olympics?”
To hear more from filmmakers Cole Sax, Galen Knowles and producer Phil Hessler, check out this KUER RadioWest interview on World Debut. The incomparable Doug Fabrizio once again digs up delightful and thoughtful reflections on the evolution of these sports.
